Highway of Ancestors

They pull not paddle their canoes on routes traveled by their ancestors along the Northwest Coast, a centuries-old tradition of harvest, transport, trade, reunion and celebration.
To see a fleet of canoes against the backdrop of a Washington State Ferry is unforgettable, but fails to bring to the observer the years of planning and preparation involved.
Representing a Northwest Coast way of life, the canoe is more than a symbol, but reflection of a coastal people, rich history and spirituality.
On its website - http://www.paddletolummi.com - The Lummi Nation sponsoring the 2007 Paddle to Lummi intertribal canoe journey described it as a time of healing, hope, happiness, honor and hospitality.

Over the years canoes have traveled from various locations in Washington, British Columbia, Oregon and Alaska
